We're pausing the spotlight on Rise Beyond the Reef. We didn't anticipate that the war in Gaza would last this long, spread to Lebanon, or bring such devastation to the West Bank. Every time our screens fill with unbearable images, we think it can't get worse—yet, over the weekend, it did.
The situation in Palestine continues to deteriorate, leaving us feeling lost and questioning humanity. Witnessing patients, women, and children perish in burning tents is beyond comprehension, today, in 2024.
Our thoughts are with our Palestinian team, as well as those enduring these horrors in what were once refugee camps, now permanent cityscapes for the displaced. These atrocities are unfolding in places meant to offer safety but have become a cruel reminder of ongoing suffering.
We've been criticised before about sharing our Palestinian ceramics while speaking out against these atrocities. Yet we've also been thanked for offering something to hold onto when everything feels hopeless. The proceeds from our handmade ceramics go directly to our team in Bethlehem—through wages, trauma support, and rebuilding efforts.
We apologise if this feels inappropriate, but we're simply letting you know about new pieces from our Bethlehem workshop. Right now, these ceramic homes feel especially poignant—a way to light a candle and reflect on those displaced by war, violence, and poverty. We once saw them as Christmas decorations, but today they offer us a moment to pause.
Thank you for holding space with us.
